Starlit Jar on the Observatory Plaza

Verse

Elsie with a brass telescope, fingers warm on the cold draw
She sets it on the cracked concrete where the marble plaque is worn raw
A girl with a canvas satchel, ration cans clink in her palms
She comes by the soot-scarred steps, humming a tune she heard last fall

Chorus

Ooh-wah, ooh-wah, doo-bee-doo, ooh
Ooh-wah, ooh-wah, doo-bee-doo, ooh
Stars peek like pennies in a patchwork sky
Doo-wop, snap, two hushes and a sigh

Verse

Elsie points through the novachord haze, naming halves of old constellations
The girl watches each trembling glow like someone reading secret invitations
Wind rattles an empty coffee tin, it answers like a bass from the square
They trade a quiet tally of the years, share a breath of cool, thin air

Chorus

Ooh-wah, ooh-wah, doo-bee-doo, ooh
Ooh-wah, ooh-wah, doo-bee-doo, ooh
A ribbon of stars stitches up the dome
Doo-wop, snap, heart to heart, far from home

Bridge

spoken word

The girl lifts a jam jar, lid silver, warm with sun-sweet spoil
Elsie lets out a soft chuckle — the heavens feel like they're back on the soil

Chorus

Ooh-wah, ooh-wah, doo-bee-doo, ooh
Ooh-wah, ooh-wah, doo-bee-doo, ooh
Heavens are far but a jar can stay bright
Doo-wop, snap, pass it here, hold the night
